Karlayura Cleanaway Joint Venture
Cleanaway Waste Management Ltd is Australia’s leading waste management company, operating a national network of unique collection, processing, treatment and landfill assets from more than 177 locations across Australia. Cleanaway’s philosophy is that all waste is a resource and aim to incorporate recover, recycling and reuse throughout its operations.
In 2017 Karlayura Group and Cleanaway joined forces as a 51% majority Aboriginal-owned business to maximise opportunities for local Aboriginal communities, including those across the Pilbara with a focus on providing sustainable employment and business opportunities, while respecting the need to maintain a strong connection to local Aboriginal cultural traditions. “The partnership established to promote collaboration, and collectively facilitate initiatives that improve direct Aboriginal employment opportunities and, where possible, business development in a real and sustainable way.
The KCJV has been collaboratively built on principles supporting Cleanaway’s Reconciliation Action Plan, and is committed to:
- Building strong relationships within local Aboriginal communities
- Respecting heritage and culture
- Creating real and sustainable opportunities via direct and indirect employment
- Education and Training
- Aboriginal business development, and
- Cultural support and awareness.
The KCJV is a continuation of this joint commitment from both Karlayura Group and Cleanaway to working collaboratively with local Traditional Owners and Aboriginal Community Elders across Western Australia and beyond, to increase genuine engagement with local Aboriginal communities, and work together for a sustainable future.
KCJV is governed by a Board of Directors comprising representatives of Karlayura Group and Cleanaway.
