The Ammonium Nitrate Facility at Christmas Creek has suffered deterioration of the concrete in the Ammonium Nitrate bunkers since construction was completed.
The scope included identification of the extent of deterioration of concrete, consultation with structural engineer for structural integrity review and project works sequencing for safe execution of works and then removal of affected concrete and repair and remediation with specialist grout products.
The bunkers were then treated with a sealant to prevent further deterioration in the future.
Project Achievements and Constraints
Successful coordination with facility users including Ammonium Nitrate deliveries.
Staged to provide continuous operation of the site.
Completed without safety incidents.
Use of hydro blasting unit minimised need for physical effort with jack hammer and increased production rates further minimising operational impact on the facility.
